International Women's Day: Asma Ahmed

Why do you think it is important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

It’s wonderful to be able to have a day dedicated to recognising and celebrating the inspiring and wonderful women all around the world! I think women should be celebrated every day. As a mum of two, wife, and business woman it can be very challenging at times to juggle home and work life.

I am very passionate about my career and have worked hard to get where I am. International Women’s Day is a great time to acknowledge those who are contributing so much- it means a lot to be noticed.

What advice would you give to young women thinking about their careers?

Women can do anything in any aspect of their lives! Don’t limit yourself based on gender- anything is achievable if you put your mind to it. I also think it’s important that women push themselves out of their comfort zone; you’ll be amazed at just how much you’ll learn and grow in all aspects of your life.

But importantly, I actively encourage people to be true to themselves and be confident as it really shines through.

Why do you think diversity in the workplace is so important?

I believe people from all backgrounds are capable of doing great things. I am a firm believer that diversity is key in all aspects of life- be it in the workplace or in our everyday lives. I have brought up both of my lovely girls with the ethos that gender shouldn’t hold you back- we’re all human at the end of the day.

What is the proudest moment in your career to date?

Getting my current role at CET was by far the proudest moment of my career. The interview process was something I found very daunting as I have never worked in Home Emergency before so it was a field I was quite unfamiliar with. However, I pushed myself, completed the interview process, and here I am! CET have really helped me develop within my career as the Leadership Team have been nothing but supportive. Within my role at CET, I am able to contribute my ideas and see them grow and develop to positively impact the business which gives me a great sense of pride and accomplishment.

With CET being a mainly remote company, being able to work from home means I can be there more for my children. Working from home has definitely improved my work-life balance. As a full-time working mum I have more time to focus on my career as well as watching my children grow up and ensuring I don’t miss out on all the valuable moments that come with being a mum.

Taking this as an opportunity to reflect, I feel that as a wife, mother, and businesswomen I have achieved so much and I am very proud of the woman I am.
