In an announcement today, a major nationwide testing powerhouse has been created following the acquistion of Construction Testing Solutions (CTS) by CET, in a deal worth £3m.
CET, a leading supplier of specialist outsourced services to the construction and insurance sectors, has acquired Doncaster-based CTS which specialises in a variety of UKAS-accredited testing services for the construction industry. Its purpose-built laboratories undertake a host of material, soil and aggregates testing and inspection procedures which mirror CET’s own specialisms.
CET’s existing geotechnical and environmental services include strength-testing of construction materials and aggregates; investigating development sites for ground contamination; and earthworks and stability analysis. CET itself operates laboratory facilities in the South East, Midlands and Scotland as well as mobile labs. The acquisition will strengthen CET’s nationwide service, enabling CET to extend its services for customers in the M1 corridor and beyond. With construction activity set to increase dramatically in the north of England as a result of the National Infrastructure Plan, the Northern Powerhouse Project and the Transport for the North initiative, CET together with CTS is now ideally placed to serve these prestigious upcoming projects.
CET has grown substantially in the last three years. With backing from private equity investor Dunedin, it has successfully focussed on acquisitive and organic growth and has made significant investment in technology. As a result, the company has increased its revenues by 75% over three years.
Bob Blunden, CEO of CET, commented: “Increasingly we are working with customers who operate nationally, and a strong foothold in the north will be instrumental in providing a seamless service to these clients – as well as supporting the growth we expect in the region as a result of government investment. We will be working closely with CTS’s management team to integrate our teams, share knowledge and best practice, and upskill our joint workforce.”
Jon Hardcastle Managing Director of CTS, added: “We could not be joining CET at a more exciting time for construction and infrastructure in the north of England. Consolidating our successful business with that of a national market leader will allow us to expand our materials testing capabilities and play a crucial role in the regional construction boom.”
